Thursday 29 October, 7.30 pm. A film, a panel and, I hope, a room full of people who have spent too long explaining land value tax to blank faces. On Thursday 29 October, I would like to see you in person, if you are around London. The Estate is showing at Chiswick Cinema, and I will be on the panel afterwards with Fred Harrison and the film’s director, Carlo Nero. It stars Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero, and Carlo is their son. https://www.chiswickcinema.co.uk/movie/the-estate-panel-discussion/ The story will be familiar to anyone who has read Progress and Poverty. An aristocratic family is losing its ancestral home to debt just as a housing boom turns into a crash. The film explores how the scares of land dispossession haunt the past and the future I have spent thirty years arguing that the land question sits underneath most of what goes wrong in this country, from housing to wildlife loss to grinding poverty. This film encapsulates the issues in a star-studded family drama. Why I would like you to comePartly because the film deserves an audience, and a full room on a Thursday night helps a small British film. Partly because I would like to meet you; many of you have written to me, commented, argued with me and sent me papers. I would like to put faces to the names. And partly because this is a rare chance to bring people to the land question. Bring a friend who has never heard of Henry George. Bring a sceptical relative. Bring the neighbour who thinks property prices only ever go up. The detailsThursday 29 October 2026, 7.30 pm The screening will be followed by an on-stage discussion with Carlo Nero, Fred Harrison and me. There will be time for your questions, so bring your sharpest ones and maybe a pint afterwards. One small requestIf you are part of a Georgist group, a land reform network, a housing campaign or a history society, please pass this on. One share in the right group can fill a dozen seats. I can send a poster and a short description to anyone who would like them, so just reply to this email or leave a comment below. If you are coming, tell me in the comments. I would like to know who to look out for. See you in Chiswick. Peter You're currently a free subscriber to Peter Smith Rewilding. For the full experience, upgrade your subscription.
